I fell in love with Recon the moment I seen him, December 6, 2006. He was owned by a boy that could not take care of him and planned on giving him away to another person, who planned on fighting him. I gave the young man $20 and took a beautiful and loving pitbull home with me that day and from then on he brought nothing but life, laughter, and love into my home, a home that had been consumed with grief after a tragic loss my family and I experienced a little less than a year earlier. "His name is Recon and he's never met a stranger," I said to so many people over the next 3 years. Recon brought so many smiles, so many unique hugs, and so much life into the lives of my daughters, myself, husband and every person who came to our home. Food was his passion and he got a long lecture about it every time we entered the vet’s office, but he was happy and he made us happy and that’s all that mattered. He was just "more to love" and that we did. Recon was diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer in June of 2009, at 3 years old. Although he was battling cancer, his natural spirit and amazing personality never vanished. And some of his medication gave him a little EXTRA personality. I remember one time I asked my daughter to roll meatballs while I worked in my garden and when I came inside I found a pan on the stove with six meatballs. I called my daughter and asked "why did you only make six meatballs out of a two pounds of hamburger," she replied, "Mom what do mean when I left the house the whole pan was filled," and a few moments later, "RECON COME HERE.....did you eat these meatballs?" Of course he just sat there with his precious eyes and what I always thought a smile, I never figured out how he managed to remove the raw meatballs from the stove top without throwing the pan on the floor, but that was just him....remarkable! His medicine made him extremely hungry but he was a trooper and he NEVER gave up no matter how hard it got. Nine months and thousands of dollars later, his body could not fight anymore. Recons memories bring us so much happiness as he was always ready to plow you over with a toy in his mouth until the day he passed, March 16, 2010. No words will ever express the love I have for my pitbull "son." He was remarkable and changed me forever.
