After much discussion and consideration we decided that we were going to adopt a dog. We both desperately wanted one, knew we wanted to adopt, and that we wanted a bully breed. Finally we settled on getting an American Bulldog. We spent months, literally day after day all day scouring petfinder.com for the perfect dog. We narrowed our search down to about 3 dogs and began going through the process of talking to local shelters, talking to foster homes and even sending in applications. One was this adorable little boy named Cowboy and after finding more about him and them finding more about our lifestyle they figured he wouldnt be the best fit. I had just about given up completely. The months of searching, the applications, the amount of back and forth through phone calls and emails was tiring to say the least. Right as I was about to hang up with the shelter they said, "Well we have this really sweet, gentle female who we are all just in love with. She's been here for a long time and needs her forever home badly." So after talking some more about her we then find out that she is located in Alabama, we live in Massachusetts. Never did I think we would be thinking of adoption a dog we would never be able to meet first. But we decided to take a leap of faith that she would be the dog for us. From what we were hearing she sounded perfect, they told us she was well mannered, trained, and an Am Bulldog. We agreed wholeheartedly, signed all the paper work and after another 2 weeks of daily phone calls to Alabama we got word that she was ours. Finally the day was there that we'd be picking up our 65 lb baby. Well when they walked her off that truck and handed us the leash to this tiny 45lb Staffordshire we just about fell over. I think I asked them if we had the right dog about 3 times, but they assured us that that was Rosie and she was ours. Whenever I turned around and saw my boyfriend kneeling down and her giving him kisses and huddled into him, I knew I was a goner. I wouldn't have and couldn't have turned her away. From that day on we have yet to be disappointed. We adopted her in November of 2008 and not a day goes by when I am not happy and thankful we found her. We couldnt ask for a sweeter, more gentle dog. She is the perfect example of everything this breed can be.
